During the Shuttle passes over the platforms "Barbara" of the Italian Oil Company AGIP, scientists of the University of Piemonte Orientale "A. Avogadro" of Alessandria and of the Italian National Research Council (CNR) of Venice collected time series of radar backscatter at four different bands (L-S-C and Ku), as well as of the main meteorological parameters (visit the pertinent page on this web site in the Italian Experiment Section, experiment n° 1). The figure shows the platform "Barbara C" of AGIP, where the instruments were installed and the computers housed.

on left, the ultrasonic anemometer-thermometer (CNR-Venice)
and, on right, the L-S-C band scatterometer
(University - Torino - Alessandria).

Time series of temperatures recorded astride the Shuttle pass time
(14 feb 2000 - 11:15 GMT).
From top to bottom: air temperature obtained from the ultrasonic thermometer,
the dew point temperature and the sea surface temperature (CNR - Venice, University - Torino - Alessandria).

Spectral analysis of the time series of the Ku band radar backscatter and Doppler frequency.
Left: power spectrum of the radar backscatter.
Right: power spectrum of the radar Doppler frequency.
Both spectra reproduce the wave frequency spectrum of the sea waves during the Shuttle pass
(CNR - Venice, University - Torino - Alessandria).
